Whitney, you are not alone. My mother died two days after her 49th birthday -- the doctors said that it was a race between the cancer and the emphysema (why, oh why, are people still smoking?!?). I was 22; my first child wasn't even 2 years old yet. It is impossible to count as high as the number of times I have wished that my mother was still walking with me through the nearly 40 years of good and bad times since then. Now I'm just grateful to have been allowed to live almost 13 years longer than she did...and so glad to know that she and Jesus are waiting for me to join them in Paradise.
