It was a pleasure to meet you by phone earlier this year through your Common Good article. And

thank you for sharing this reflection on beginnings. I share your reluctance to embrace delight. I can't help but think of the poem, "A Brief for the Defense" (Jack Gilbert) that takes on the theme of delight:

"We must have the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless furnace of this world."

Rachel, I love that so much. Of course sickness and life began sweeping through our house the minute I wrote something on delight. What a good word. Here's to finding stubborn, sticky delight in the face of all the fiery trials.

I can’t say that my ‘default mode’ is productivity like you Whitney, perhaps procrastination hits more home. However, lately I have truly delighted on learning new things in the Bible. I have always loved learning, but when God reveals a bit more of Himself to me, it reminds me of all the times my grandmother would sneak me extra cookies. A little treat, just for me ☺️ such a delight!
